Membership Musings – November/December 2019
It’s good to be back! Aldersgate is a busy place these days and we are thrilled with your enthusiasm for all that is happening! Your participation in events, your helping hands, your positive energy; all are appreciated as we move forward with God’s direction and for His glory! The hands-on work that has taken place these past few months – painting, cleaning, clearing, hauling, etc. is a testimony to your love for, and commitment to, Christ and His church. And we are so blessed by all each of you do for this community of faith!
With the refurbished spaces in the children’s wing, our children’s ministry and preschool will take our children on Amazing Adventures as they gain a new understanding of God’s love and care for His creation and His people. So, let the little ones lead us to a new day!
New babies have been kind of scarce around here lately, but Nick and Sarah were gifted with an adorable second son, Aaron Isaac Curry, born September 20th. We have had a couple Baptisms over the past couple of months. Corinne Pearl Mills, daughter of Jenna and Daniel Mills (granddaughter of Dave Glatfelter) was baptized during the 10:30 Worship Service on September 22nd. Jacob David Hippensteel, son of Jared and Sarah Hippensteel (grandson of Dale and Janet Hippensteel) was baptized October 27th during the 9:15 Worship Service. Welcome little ones!
At the other end of the spectrum we have a fantastic group of ladies and gentlemen celebrating Senior Birthdays in November and December. In November, those special people are: Virginia Potter on the 3rd; Dolores Butcher and Glade Taylor on the 15th; Bob Seitz on the 16th; Dr. Jim Smith on the 17th; Louise Cookson on the 20th; Elsie Yarnell on the 21st; Faye Dull on the 28th; and Loretta Slaybaugh on the 29th.
December’s senior birthday people are Ackie Atkinson on the 2nd; Russ Etter on the 5th; Dick Julian on the 7th; John Funk on the 11th; Harry Shermeyer on the 14th; Ken Walton on the 26th; and Karen Julian on the 30th.
Happy Birthday to all these youngsters! A complete list of birthdays for our congregation can be found on the bulletin board across from the mailboxes.
As we come near to All Saints Day we’ll remember thirteen of our members who were “Promoted”, as Pastor Dale says, this past year. Those to whom we have had to say goodbye most recently were Bill Koons on September 29th and Ralph Baum on September 18th. Robby Robertson left us July 18th at the ripe old age of 99! How blessed we have been to know so many faithful servants of Christ.
We are also nearing that time of year in which we focus on counting our blessings and giving thanks to God for his faithfulness. This year at Aldersgate we can be especially thankful for the new life that is springing forth in so many areas.
Be sure to keep your church, your church family and staff in your prayers, it is a good thing to encourage and support one another in our walk with the Lord and each other. Happy Thanksgiving! And, Merry Christmas!
