JACKSON SCHOOL – Our City Mission
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.” Mathew 5:16
Several car loads of school supplies from an anonymous donor were delivered to Jackson School around the beginning of September. As well as several boxes of used crayons from our own children’s Sunday School and Preschool. These items are in such demand within the school and were extremely appreciated.
Our “Volunteer Tutoring Program” began October 12th with two volunteers helping with testing and assisting a Kindergarten Teacher. Many praises and THANKS go to these women who are so extremely dedicated to helping these children. Not only does learning go on, but relationships develop between the tutors and students. As one volunteer shared: “I wear a cross necklace, and as I was helping this one particular day, the student asked me why I wear the necklace. By sharing my faith, I am not only at the school helping them learn educationally, I am reaching them in a loving, caring, and spiritual way. Isn’t this what Jesus wants us to do? By our actions and our words, we can help someone to know Jesus!”
Some of the plans for fall and beyond include:
1) A male mentoring program run by the school administration after school hours. There are possibilities to volunteer and serve to help meet this very vital need.
2) AUMC Missions will assemble and deliver 71 fruit baskets to the school staff on Thursday, December 5th at 9AM in Fellowship Hall. Anyone is invited to help with this FUN outreach. Please let Robin Hoffman know if you are interested in donating any type of bread/cookies so they can plan on how many they each need to make. Donations need to be in the church kitchen, marked “Jackson School” by Wednesday, December 4th.
3) As always, there is a great need for winter coats. Fifteen coats were donated by someone from church and delivered. As you happen to be out and about, please consider donating a coat for a child. Used coats are fine as long as they are in good condition! Sizes would be from child size 5 through medium adult, boys and girls.
4) Hats, scarves and gloves are always appreciated, as are uniforms, socks and underwear from child’s size 4 through adult M. Uniforms – child’s sizes 4 through 14. Arrangements can be made to pickup and deliver donations, please contact Robin.
5) Please remember to pray for the students and staff at Jackson School daily. Prayer is the greatest gift one could give.
6) Volunteers are always needed as we would love to begin the “Breakfast Club” again which is a Program where volunteers meet with a group of about six children from about 7:50AM to 8:10AM and just read. Students read from a chosen book and then discuss what they read. It is so much fun and so rewarding to see them grow in knowledge and trust.
As we know Jesus here at Aldersgate Church through the Sermons, Sunday Schools, Bible Studies and other opportunities we have here; we should desire to show how we Live with Jesus in our hearts, His Holy Spirit guiding us and urging us to Share Jesus with others. This really is an amazing opportunity to be a disciple in our own community. Won’t you pray about being a part of this ongoing mission?
God is so good, ALL the time! And how very blessed we are to be able to serve Him in this amazing way! It truly has been an amazing adventure! May God Bless you!
