Building Solid Foundations

EDUCATION TEAM BOOK SELECTION GUIDELINES FOR SCHOOL LIBRARIES IN GHANA
 
PICTURE BOOKS, FICTION AND NONFICTION  BOOKS ---
---- should be in new or near-new CONDITION and NOT OUTDATED
---- HARDCOVER preferred (humidity, etc.), but sturdy paperbacks are o.k.
---- books concerning AFRICA and its countries, including stories, biographies, folktales are especially needed
 
NONFICTION (FACTUAL) BOOKS
---- Complete sets of encyclopedias, etc. (1995 and later)
---- Informational books with lots of ILLUSTRATIONS and/or PHOTOGRAPHS
---- MINIMUM of American history, culture and development
 
FICTION BOOKS
---- Avoid topics of western culture that cannot be understood by ELEMENTARY and JUNIOR HIGH students learning English as a SECOND LANGUAGE
        (no dating, babysitting, sleepovers, Halloween, etc.)
 
We CANNOT use pop-up books, magazines, textbooks, study guides, school readers, most movie or TV tie-ins.
