The Longest Night Gathering
Thursday, December 19th at 7PM in the Sanctuary
“The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” JOHN 1:5
In the darkness of this year, 2019, there is one night longer and darker than all the others. It is the time of The Winter Solstice, when all the days leading up to December 21 or 22 have become shorter and shorter until at last that Longest Night arrives! It is as if the earth pauses before allowing the sun to lay claim to the earth, to once again grow the light day by day ‘til The Summer Solstice in June, the first day of Summer.
This darkness is not only of the night, but perhaps the darkness of our souls as we muse the days past: deeds done and undone, loss of loved ones, sins of commission and omission, loss of hope, words thrown in anger and pain, when the embrace of forgiveness is thrown deep into winter’s ice, never to thaw and bloom into love and acceptance.
What do we make of this longest night and soul of darkness? Some may say, “It is what it is. Move on.” What could possibly be found here on this night that could be useful or redeeming? Perhaps this could be a rich darkness that holds more hope than meets the mind….a gift to ourselves of a Time Apart away from holiday busyness, a time to look within and reflect in quiet candlelight, a time to let go, a time to be renewed once again by the sweet embrace of God’s Love and Assurance. Come to discover what the Longest Night holds for you!
In the midst of darkness, a service of light for our challenging times.
Come renew your spirit, receive healing, and go forth with hope and peace in your heart.
